Creating a handmade piece, we automatically think it will become a family heirloom. But not all handmade items are equal. Let’s see what 3 qualities will make your project a cherished family keepsake that will be passed down from generation to generation.

There are so many yarn options these days – industrial and artisan yarns. Some of them are labeled “baby,” but not all of them are truly natural and long-lasting.
If you want your piece to last, make it from natural and high-quality yarn. It might not be a budget-friendly solution, but think of it as a little legacy, a little treasure that will unite generations of your family. Isn’t it worth it?!
My personal advice – if you are creating a gift and want it to become a part of the child’s family story, prioritise the quality. Better to make a smaller item (a hat instead of a blanket), but of a better quality.

Trendy and bright colors look nice, but will they still be loved after 20 years? You also do not know if the next generations will use this piece for boys or girls, so choosing gender-neutral colors is essential.
Neutral colors also ensure that your handmade item will fit any home decor and baby bedding. What means that it will be used with love and joy.
Here are some color palette inspirations for you.

Simplicity is a new quiet luxury. Even the most basic stitch combination can produce a wonderful, timeless piece. Styles and tastes are changing over time. The basics never do. Have you notieced, that the most luxurious and elegant items have very minimal design? The same applies to knit and crochet pieces.
Here are some of my personal favourites for your next timeless heirloom project.
