
Today I am happy to share a free crochet baby blanket pattern – the Victoria baby blanket.

Yarn alternatives suggestions
8 sts / 5 rows to make a square swatch 4×4 in (10×10 cm) of double (UK treble) crochet with an 8 mm crochet hook (U.S. – L/11, UK – 0). Please, pay attention to the tension! Adjust your stitch count accordingly if the ready swatch will be smaller/larger than 4×4 in (10×10 cm). Or you can use a one-size bigger/ smaller crochet hook.

This blanket is crocheted using the following stitches:
Chain, slip stitch, half double crochet (UK-half treble crochet), double crochet (UK–treble crochet), V-stitch.
Work *2 double crochet, ch1, 2 double crochet* in the same stitch of a previous row.
in – inches cm – centimeters
st– stitch sts /stitches
RS- right side WS – wrong side
Ch – chain stitch HDC- half double (UK -half treble) crochet DC – double (UK treble) crochet
V st – V-stitch

This blanket is worked back and forth.
Chain 64 sts.
Row 1 (RS): HDC in the 3rd ch from the hook, HDC in each chain till the end of the row, ch 3, turn.
Row 2 (WS): DC in 2nd HDC of the previous row (counts as 1st), *skip 3 sts of the previous row, V st*. Repeat from * to *till the end of the row, Dc in 2nd chain of ch3 of the previous row, ch 3, turn.
Row 3: DC in 2nd HDC of the previous row, *V st inside the ch1 space of the previous row*. Repeat from * to *till the end of the row, Dc in 2nd chain of ch3 of the previous row, ch 3, turn.
Repeat row 3 until your blanket measures 40.9 in (104 cm) = approx. 36 rows, then turn your work and start to make finishing rows.
Finishing rows:
Row 37 (RS): HDC in 1st DC of the previous row, *HDC, skip 1ch, 4 HDC, skip 1 ch*. Repeat from * to * till the end of the row, ch 2, turn.
Row 38 (WS): HDC in 2nd st of previous row, HDC till the end of the row, 2 HDC in 2nd ch of ch2, turn your work and start boarding.
Border (crocheted in the round on all 4 sides of the blanket):
Row 1 (RS): Crochet HDC in every even st (2 HDC in 1 st on angles) along all 4 sides of the blanket, finish with ch 1, and sl st. Continue on RS.
Row 2: Crochet sl st in each even st on the top and on the bottom sides of the blanket (add ch1 on angles) and sc in each even st on the left and right sides of the blanket (add ch1 on angles before starting sl st).
Bind off. Weave the ends using a tapestry needle.
